2023 marks 10 years since I started freelancing full-time. To celebrate, I want to shout about some of the brilliant people I’ve worked with over the last decade. Hopefully you’ll be inspired to work with them too!
Storytelling – Mile 91
I’m an associate writer with Mile 91 and I’ve got founders Catherine and Ben to thank for some of the best bits of my career (such as a deep-dive into the history of trade unionism). While Catherine masterminds storytelling strategies, Ben’s behind the camera capturing stunning stills and memorable footage. They offer a range of excellent training too. Read more about Mile 91.
Website design and development – Nice Work Digital
Their work’s nice and so are they! Dream-team Ben and Frankie run a small but perfectly formed digital agency. They’re the techy brains behind this very website and I loved working with them on a new site for Bluebell. Find out more about Nice Work Digital.
Design and illustration – Esther Curtis
I collaborated with Esther on a brochure for Bluebell and it was such a joy that I blogged about it! As well as a talented designer and illustrator, Esther is a total pleasure to work with. Check out her gorgeous portfolio.
Fundraising – Laura Salisbury
Need help boosting your unrestricted income? Laura’s your woman. With millions raised under her belt, Laura takes on interim fundraising roles, delivers events and projects and offers mentoring and training. She’s one of the calmest, most collected people I know – and I’m still in awe of her solo hike along the West Highland Way! Read more about Laura.

I may be in danger of doing myself out of a job by recommending Amy, but what the heck – she’s great. As well as a very skilled writer, editor and proof-reader, she’s incredibly organised and professional – and just plain lovely to work with. Read more about Amy.
Design – Paul Durrant from Studio Rationale
Not only did Paul design some gorgeous marketing materials for me when I was at Motivation, he was also very lovely to work with. And later, when I started freelancing, Paul volunteered to design my CharityStory logo (which still gives me a little spark of joy whenever I use it!). He lives in Toronto these days so it’s a few years since we’ve met for a cuppa, but I’ve never forgotten his generosity, patience and fab communication skills. And the good news?
